Hello,
My son lost his cell phone 13 months into the 2 year contract. I'm looking to get another one on eBay.

Am I correct in assuming I should get one that is unlocked, or does it matter?

Also, is it better to get one with a sim card, or will cingular charge me the same to activate the phone whether or not it has a sim card?

Thanks!

make sure that you get an UNLOCKED phone. the sim should have everything you need to use the phone. just pop it in and go. but call cingular to let them know the new ESN number of the phone for there records if it ever gets lost or stolen again.

Because he lost his old phone, we don't have his old sim.

Are you referring to the sim card that would be included with the phone we buy on eBay, assuming we buy one with a sim card?

Thanks!

You will need to purchase a new sim card directly from cingular wireless....if memory serves me correct, it may cost about $25 (i could be wrong). Def purch an unlocked phone, if not, it will only work on the previous carrier....make sure the phone you purchase on eBay can operate on the same network and frequencies as cingular wireless out of your calling area....
