download motorola mobile phone tools, u must first download 1.23c (originial) and then the update to 2.16. as far as the mp3s go, they must be 64 bit mp3s. any higher and they will not play. u might need to download a program to convert them to these lower bitrates, i suggest something like Easy CD-DA Extractor.

Motorola phone tools is not essential. I just bought a USB bluetooth adapter for my pc and it works fine using windows explorer. As for the 64kbps bit rate, I have some ringtones that are 128kbps, but then the file is just way too big. I compressed the files down to 48kbps and it works just fine. I used Music Match Jukebox to convert the files. Hope this helps.

I too bought a bluetooth adapter for my USB port and it works beautifully. I started making tons of wallpapers and swapping back and forth. I also saved several mp3s as ringtones at 128bit. I finally found a cutting program to make the ringtones only 30 seconds long each. If anyone lets their phone ring longer than that without knowing their own ringtone, they should be forced to swallow their phone. I noticed that at 64bit the songs sounded a bit muffled and not as loud. At 128bit they are clear and sound just fantastic. 30 seconds each and they dont take up much room, all under 500kb each.

i bounce between 64kbps and 96kbps.
128kbps = larger file
56kbps and lower = crudy sound.
each song sounds different at different bitrates as they are compressed differently.
has anyone tried using a Variable Bit Rate MP3?

OK, I bought a belkin bluetooth adapter with 100 meter range and it can't find my v600.
Motorola customer support told me that I had to have mobile phone tools or the bt adapter wouldnt work.
How did you get the v600 to pair on it's own?

I just used the standard software that comes with the Bluetooth adapter. The software can search for devices and pair them! Use Music Match Jukebox to convert files.

I recommend using http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. It's freeware and easy to use for editing mp3 files.
For re-encoding your mp3s into something smaller, I recommend http://www.dbpoweramp.com/. THis is also freeware and super easy to use.
With the combination of both of these programs, you can edit and encode your mp3 ringtones easily. I prefer to keep my mp3 ringtones really small in file size therefore I encode at 22kbps. I don't see the point of going any higher since its like a mono-speaker on the phone anyways.

You have to make sure that you turn the bluetooth on your phone. Then I plug in the bluetooth adapter. Then I open the bluetooth files, make sure it mates with your phone and bingo, good to go. It recognizes my phone now whenever i just turn the bluetooth on. try this http://www.cooolsoft.com/mp3cut.htm for cutting mp3s. its what i use and its fantastically easy. Just download the trial and no paying. Can only make 30 second ringtones though, but who needs longer?
