I want to purchase another Cingular phone, but not sure what kind - GAIT or GSM. I currently have a GSM phone (Motorola T720) but sometimes still can't get a good signal when in RURAL areas of Michigan (away from towns and cities). I rarely travel out of state, but do travel around Michigan a lot.
What do you guys suggest ??? Under GAIT, Cingular has the Nokia 6340i, but there's lots more under GSM. What is better.
HELP !!

Hi,
General speaking, I like GSM phone because it has a lot of features can be used. I suggest you to check the area coverage map on the Cingular Wireless web site (www.cingular.com) and get an idea for GSM and GAIT network and see which cover most of your travel area. Then you can choice that type of phone and service. Hope this information will help.

The TDMA (or GAIT) phone gives you a lot more coverage, but unfortunately you pay dearly for it. The phone plans are more expensive and you have less anytime and WE & PM minutes. So, it's a choice of better coverage and less minutes or more minutes and not as good coverage.

Not anymore. With the GSM phones - least expensive "National" plan is $40 with 450 anytime minutes and 5000 N&WE.
With GAIT phones - the National plan costs $45 (5 dollars more) and you get only 400 anytime minutes and only 1000 N&WE.
Go Figure....

I have had aGait (Cingular) since 10/2003, I have had nothing but trouble , where ever I go ijusy does not want to work. I also Have a V60S Verizon and hardly ever have trouble with it, I go where the coverage requres the two phones if the cingular phone would work I would be happy. I have installed car kits with external antenna;s so I have done just about everything I can do. Cingular doesn't want to admit that there is a problem, except the tech's when you call in on the 611 number, take it to a store everything is OK. Theyhave replace the phone 4 time and the hand free car kit twice. I can't take it anyone, I am going to drop cingular as a provider, does any one have any Ideas who would be the best provider, in Texas, Kansas, OKlahoma, NM, etc.,? Dropped calls are un beleivable, recepction is horrible and the people at some of the stores need sesitivity training. I await an answer or suggestion.
thanks, OH by the way the phone has been in the shop in Tulsa, Ada,OK, Corpus Christi, and McAlester ,OK. I don' think anyone knows how to set it or it is a bad batch of phones. The tech from Cingular said that they had to send over 3000 phones of this kind back in December, maybe should have been mine also.

since cingular and AT&T merged both companies have been trying to get rid of the tdma part of the network. i just switched from gait to gsm here in FL and my reception is probably about 4xs better

I found the Cingular Nation Plan w/Nokia GAIT phone to be a rip off here in SC. While coverage map shows nearly the entire state is covered, there are 50 mile long "holes" in coverage that I know of east of Aiken, SC. I am writing state and federal authorities to try to get them to have Cingular stop advertising the Nation Plan and refund customers money. I switched to Verizon and am very happy. It provides coverage where GAIT phone was dead. MY OPINION: STAY AWAY FROM THE CINGULAR NATION PLAN!
